This guide will help you take good care of your textiles. A few simple steps to take to make your textiles last longer but also to make them look better for longer. If you think twice before you send them off to the dry cleaners or wash them in your washing machine, you've already come a long way.

Let's go into details.

Care

Buying textiles from NABOshop means that you're getting textiles that are sustainable and made of pure organic materials. Here are a few tips to prolong the life of your new products.

When buying new towels it is advised to put them in a bowl with cold water for up to 12 hours. This treatment will make them much more absorbent.

Always think twice before putting your textiles in the washing machine or send it off to the dry cleaner. Most textiles often just need to hang in fresh air for a couple of hours to freshen up. On clothes a cloth with warm water is often enough.

Natural wool fibres are self-cleaning materials, so airing them is the best way forward. I assure you, that you can cut down on your laundry without jeopardising your health or look.

To prevent damage on your textiles ironing should also be kept at a minimum, as the high heat damages the fibres.

Cleaning

To cut to the bone: the less you wash, the longer your textiles will last. Washing is hard on your textiles and on the environment.

But if you need to wash make sure you...

1. ...Button up the buttons on garments and zip up bedding so they can move freely in the washer. Wash everything inside out to prevent colours to fade.

2. ...Wash as cold as possible and hang to dry. It benefits the environment and your textiles. A gentle 30-degrees for wool and 40 degrees maximum for is recommended. Natural fibres are sensitive towards high temperatures and changes in water temperature. Most washing machines have a gentle wool cycle, which is much more gentle for the textiles than washing them in hand.

3. ...Use an eco detergent in the wash (or find an eco dry cleaner) as it doesn't harm your textiles as much as ordinary detergent. Never use bleach, softeners or soap with bleach. Avoid putting any of your textiles in the dryer, as the high temperatures wear out the textiles.

Recycle

Thinking about what you buy and why is all part of living a more sustainable life.

At NABOshop we're all about buying less but better, also when it comes to textiles. And buying things you want to keep is all part of the same mindset.

The best environmental protection starts when you reuse or repair your textiles. If you don't intend to do any of that you can pass it on to someone who will cherish them or give it to a second hand shop.
